10. The Add New Port screen appears.
I. When Auto-Discovery (MAG) is selected:
By default, the window shown below pops up when adding a new virtual port.
At this screen, you will designate virtual COM ports on the client PC (with the corresponding
physical port on the server).
You must also specify the mapping of client virtual ports to actual ports on the server. This
mapping scheme or port re-direction scheme can be entirely automatic (a dynamic allocation),
entirely fixed, or a mixture of both. Specifically, you can map the client’s virtual port to any actual
port on any applicable device or circuit card on any connected server. Or you can specify a
particular server (in the “Server” field), a particular type of card that has modem ports (in the
“General Line” field), or a particular modem port on a particular card (in the “Specific Line” field).
Or you can select direct connection type; specify a particular server IP address or host name in
the “Server” field, authentication details in the respective fields.
Choose the protocol that is being used on your network (IP or IPX). Click Add. After adding your
final virtual port, click Done.
Adding Virtual COM Port to the system
- Virtual ports can be added either during MCSI Client
Installation itself, or later using the port setup.
Note: The addition of virtual ports requires a System Restart.
If Wild card mapping is disabled, a COM port can be added without any mapping details which
can be mapped manually later.
